June 8-10 - Bright Nights in June

Bright Nights in JuneYou are invited to join us in a celebration of the arts at the North Peace Cultural Centre this year on Friday June 9th. Join us for a cocktail hour, and the opening of Peace Gallery Norths June art exhibit “Our Home and Native Land”. The Bright Nights Gala begins our celebration of arts in the community by highlighting local artists and performers. We are excited to bring back artists who have exploded over the world wide scene, which include tap dancer Brock Jellison, pianist and composer Peter-Anthony Togni, country singer Karee J Phillips, and modern dancer Shannon May. Talent in piano, dance, music, and collaborations between local arists, including Tom Cole, Studio 2 Stage Dance Academy, Tanisha Ray, Peace Fusion Dance Company, Wesley Phan, and many more will fill in the rest of the evening. The 25th anniversary of the North Peace Cultural Centre will take you through the ages from 1867, 1942, to 1992, as we celebrate Canada, The Alaska Highway, and our very own Cultural Centre.

Events being held include:

Thursday June 8th: Art Stars – Talk of the Town – 7:00pm - 9:00pm
Hear about the journeys of people who lived in Fort St. John and went on to make their careers in the creative arts or arts administration. A roundtable discussion with the Arts Stars includes inspiring stories of what motivated them to achieve professional status in their fields.

Friday June 9th: Bright Nights in June Gala - 6:00pm
Cocktails and Gallery opening start at 6:00pm, Performance at 7:30pm. Performers include: Brock Jellison, Peter-Anthony Togni, Shannon May, Tom Cole, Studio2Stage, Wesley Phan, Tanisha Ray, Morgan Mora, Peace Fusion Dance Company and more! Tickets are $25 each.

Saturday June: 10th: Art Market & Big Print Day- 10:00am - 2:00pm
We’re creating a series of large-scale relief prints which will be printed using a road roller (yes!) - we’re following a worldwide trend to have a public Big Print Day. The final works will be on display in the North Peace Cultural Centre throughout the summer.

Bright Nights in June started in 1992 when the Cultural Centre first opened and we are proud to put on an event that showcases the outstanding local talent in our community.

Check back often as we will be updating the schedule and getting more information out in the coming weeks!
